Smash TV type game possible?

So far, I've got the character walking with the arrow keys and its working beautifully. But before I go any farther, I need to know if its possible to have the character shoot a spell at the direction that the player is facing and only have it hurt the enemy only if the spell hits the enemy.

Basically, I'm looking for a similar game machanic as Smash TV. Link provided for what Smash TV is like.

Yes it is very possible, you could probably find what you're looking for in the spells section. I would post a trigger but my we doesn't work ATM.
