Project Hive Goldminers!

:grin: Recruiting members for fun and lightweighted project

I have developed a map, Goldrush Xtreme, which has a unique concept. After running few beta tests, I realize this map can go further.

This project will focus on modification of the map. Modifying it into three subversions of the original will be our goal.

Hive Goldminers! needs a team of 6 members, each 2 members will be working on one modification.

Any ideas and suggestions about the map can come in freely. But before moving on, understand the gameplay and concept first, for it is new and a bit complicated for beginers.

Early suggestions of modification:
- Make it into an AoS, but have the classic goldrush gameplay
- Tweak the theme a lil more to being a Mine war [Kixer]
- Mix TD gameplay with the classic goldrush gameplay

This ain't heavy loaded, all we need is for you to be creative and have fun.
The project has already the core triggers and data needed, your work is to modify it with your own touch.

By the way i like your idea of splitting the map into different maps :)
i havnt actualy played the map yet but i will asap. Its not protected right?

I was thinking of just making the team to consist one editor only, but size matters with the attraction factor :grin:
But truly, this is lightweighted and one modification shouldn't require two editors to finnish the job. I would say go ahead and welcome to the team :infl_thumbs_up:

However if you're going to make a final publication, you might want to wait for my next version release since the spawning system and the Air Strike ability has bugs.

My idea about this project is experimenting how multileveling map distribution process works efficiently and quicker than normal ways of distributing maps. Such maps that does this are: Loap, tag maps, and TD'ss...

Position for Team 2 is currently taken by Kixer [You're a Hive Goldminer! :grin:]
More positions:
Team 4 and 5: Will generate a 4th and 5th subversion, but needs a very wild idea from you members of Hive.

Problem

Ok im glad to be part of the team and all :grin:
but i kind of have a problem.

I'm going to be unable to edit maps for the next 3 weeks...
So my part of the project will be a bit delayed...

Im going to have a look at the project today and I'll give you feed back by tomorrow...

Ok my thoughts so far for the map is like this (I'v got the general concept from you descrip):

1. There are a limited number of miners and you have to fight over them.
2. You then use the mined gold to build an army.
3. You use your army to fight over goldminers and mines.
4. There are only certian places you can build towers ect at a gold mine.

More ideas to come, i got to look at the map.

By the way Lordaeron is in Azeroth

I'm writing exams atm...
and im going away for two weeks once there done...

Ok i'v taken a look at the map and i realy like it...
But there are some things i realy have to change if i'm going to do what im planning:
1. Redo the System. I cant stand GUI, So i'll have to redo the system in JASS.
2. Use Actual Heros...
3. Create 2 races of armies . Dwarves and Trolls ( :smile: )

More to come...

Well I have alot of projects going on such as, G.E.A.R. and Eternity Calls. I'm doing this for fun! So didn't write any code in JASS and no Actual heroes because to me making heroes way to consuming time.

Yeah dwarves and trolls! fun2

Btw in history, dwarves and trolls are the most greedy race. Thats why the trolls are known for thief race and the Dwarves lives underground close to their most precious material, gold.

It does but dont get me started on how badly it does it! Makes like 40 functions where it should make three! I have to redo it from scratch using your trigger as a guide line.
The starting from scratch bit is the reason im stopping my map Mini-Wars (to be released on monday), its just more effort than its worth...

Lol tried it,
I turned the ordermine and getmine system code
It converts it into 50 lines of code (simplified...)

Suggestion for the Mine Wars part:
- My friend suggested me to enable a feature that allows players to plant a tick-tick (countdown) mine to a Mine Cart and blows the Mine Cart dealing 100 dmg or something and dealing 30 dmg to nearby Goldminers.
- My friends wanted to see 40 different Mines... meh they are unrealistic, but just to get the point of what the consumers want.
- One guy thinks the prices are highly inflated, he calculated and compared prices with income, it is 20% shortage.
- One guy wanted to have the Item Lockpick ability, which steals gold from Gold stash, given as a "researchable ability" instead of buying the item.
- Another guy thinks the Doom Quest is too hard to complete unless using a Maphack, so he wanted the shop to sell the Doom's meal and it will cost around 1000gold.

I agree with most of those ideas...
But when you convert GUI to JASS its done realy badly. It uses Bj functions (which leak), its slow and its not user friendly.

I think your going the right way with this map, its getting really good. The only problem I have is hero balancing according to creep strength. When I played with the warlock I couldn’t kill creep camp when I was fully upgraded! Why? Damn priests heal is too imba!I needed to use mines! Oh and it would be useful if you get notified when your cart runs out and workers return to base when it does.

EDIT:

The map is progressing slowly... Imp still planning everything and working on the basic terrain ( blaaaa :sad: ). Gonna add some nice twists like unit hiring, the arming. ( Order a unit and he runs from a refugee camp to your base where you have to arm him with a weapon)

Comments on the map are abroad, but I received more bad ones... They say the game is not clear in the beginning, the first time they play they don't understand what to do, so they just leave the game. Since then I'm going to make a cinematic for next version and if you want it I'll give it to you once its done or else you can make your own.

The dude quit... it appears that he cannot see the goldmine in this project. He thinks that the best way to accomplish a good map is by focusing on making one really good map, but not in my dictionary. Bnet is different and people will often change taste with these types of games unlike dota.

Thanks DoOs but i wont need to beta for a long time, iv been away for the last two weeks and right now iv got alot on my plate and sadly Goldrush Epic isnt on the top of the list. I'm still going to finish it its just that atm all my time is going into Acendancy.

Basics

I only have the basics atm but they are :
1. The mining system
2. Use mined gold to buy refugees who you must escort to your base.
3. You must then arm you refugee with weapons and armour (items).
4. Weapons must be upgraded to be used.
5. Use your army to crush your enemies!

Hey guys,

As I told DooS that I would be joining in on the project, I will start posting in this forum. Im not currently working on any projects other than this, so I will have lots of time. I really like the idea of being able to capture places which will give you more gold. About the original version, I think that there needs to be more than 3 heros, and I would be happy to add an extra couple (ive got lots of ideas for mad spells atm). Adding more cool items, heros, spells etc. woud really make a big differance.

I haven't really thought about it too much, but i've got a bit of an idea for a mod. Please give it as much criticism as you want. Ok, this is the idea - there are 2 sides, and there are plenty of gold mines spaced out in between the sides. All you have to do is keep a unit for say, 10 seconds, more if you have more units there, to capture it. It will then give you and your team periodic gold. But heres the main idea - you and all of your units that you buy with the periodic gold you get, get weaker (lose attack damage, lose armor, less atk and movement speed etc.) as they progress further into the oppositions base. So basically, you can try to capture lots of gold mines further towards your enemy base, but then your units will be weaker and die more easily because they are more towards the enemy base. Or you could just try to secure a few goldmines closer to your base, and kill your enemies army easier because they are weaker than yours (but they will have more units because they control most of the goldmines in the map). Actually, instead of 2 teams, I might make it 4, to add a bit more fun to it.

Thanks. The idea that sorta lead to that idea was a tug of war campaign in age of empires (lol i havent played that game in yeeeaars) where u have to capture a thing, and when you capture it it begins to start moving towards your base, and when it reaches your base you win.

I will make an updated script based on your idea.

What do you mean by this? Do you mean that you will put that idea into your map?

Just a question, are you still updating the original Goldrush Extreme? Because I was just checking out once again in single player at school today (lol we all got laptops at our school, makes english so much less boring) and the map could do with some work. Just small things like adding more custom items, maybe making a couple more types of hero etc.

(will be quite hard to make, especially to make it balanced).

hmm, I do know that it will be hard to make, but i always like challenges :) and i've got lots of map testers from the previous maps ive made that can help me to balance things.

1.9b might take awhile since I'm having problems with the transitions from non-hero to hero based system.

I'm from Singapore and I don't know about kixer.

Im from Australia. Oh, and correct me if anything I said about needing more custom items etc. is wrong because I think i've got a really old version of Goldrush. I might not start my mod yet, because I just started to learn JASS (finally lol, i've been using GUI for ages) so I will hopefully make my mod using JASS not GUI.

Sadly im going to have to withdraw from this project,
at the moment my school/War3 life is too hectic to incorporate this project...
Sorry DoOs, im still going to keep an eye on this project though and maybe throw in a helping hand if you need it...
