Restoring Old Maps

Hey everyone, I'm currently trying to restore old maps (ROC) and I'm having a problem with one particular map:

Who's the Vamp v1.47c

It has the hero inventory issue...where somewhere along the way a bnet update effected the map and made it so the heroes no longer have inventories. It's an easy fix in an unprotected map.

But, this one is protected. I was able to unlock it and open it in an "Enhanced" World Editor but when I go to save the map (with or without) making changes it spits out one the following two errors:

"trigger has been disable due to errors"

or

"worldedit.exe has generated errors and will be closed"

I've also been searching on how to contact the maps creator: DemiDemon but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

*bump*

I'd really like to fix this map and make it vital again. I'd be more than happy to send the map to someone if they'd like to check it out.

To cut all the explaining from your story:

You unprotect someones map with no luck. And now you are asking us to help you unprotect it properly, so you can do your way with the map and slap your name on it. You tryied to contact the real author, but you thought unprotecting would be easier.

Since its protected, and you cant contact the author, you should just leave it.

I have no desire to rip off the creator or the map. I would simply like to play this old classic map as was intended, with inventories.

I am more than willing to email the map to you or anyone else to fix the inventory problem. You can relock it and send it back my way, in fact I would prefer that as the creator has it locked in the first place.

I just wanna play and I know I'm not the only one :(

p.s. Wouldn't you want one of your old maps to live on if people are enjoying it?

**In response to Low-Life:

It displays "trigger has been disabled due to errors" then allows me to click "ok" through each of all the triggers to disable them.

I'll double check again when I get home.

I hunted the animal (tryied to get an idea for a map), then when i cought it, i pulled out my shovel (made the triggers and stuff), i hit it multiple times with the shovel (tested the map out), then i stuffed the animal (protected the map), and then i put it on display (released the map to the public).

So No, i wouldnt want anybody to dust out the stuffed animal and start trying to revive it.

So you don't want people playing your maps? I guess you and I make maps for different reasons..... I would take delight in someone playing and enjoying my maps.

Anyway, I have this thread going in the JASS section and seem to be having better luck there. If anyone would like to contribute, please post in that thread. I'm an idiot for starting this thread in multiple locations, but I wasn't sure which area I'd have the best luck in :(

Where did i say that? In my understanding we were talking about people like you making old maps "alive" again after the original creator has vanished from the wc3 scene. And that i wouldnt want anybody to do on my maps.

Simply classic.

Thnx Low-Life :) It's still fun to play without the inventories, but back in the day when we played WITH inventories (as the map creator intended) it was even better.

I'll keep trying and keep you posted!

The map wouldn't have needed to be editied if a bnet update a year or two later wouldn't have taken out the hero inventories. That's not the map makers fault, and it's not the fault of the people who play and enjoy the map either. But since the map maker apparently disappeared from the wc3 scene and cannot fix it him/herself, I believe it would be MY fault if I simply let this map die without trying to restore it to it's original state.

That's truly what I believe, and I don't think any hunting/animal stuffing analogy is gonna change that ;)
