I'm thinking of making an ability like the one below;

Marisa - Final Spark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K-ZpO609Fg

a blast of energy that comes forth from nothing and stays there for any period of time (channeling, of course, but my question is about the model itself). I've seen in it done in a couple of maps, so I know it is possible.
I'm not requesting anyone to do it for me, just begging for guidance on which model to base my spell on (yes I can use unit editor by Magos)

I'd thank you with all my heart :D

FOR MARISA!! :p

DUDE I said

Isn't this the model section? Anyway, I'll post it there, although I want to be the one making the model... duh

Have fun in your halo games

well....the base of this model is actually quite simple:

you take an 8 sided cone and place it like this: <

in this cone you put a smaller one. your model should be like this then: <<
but this one be made out of particles.

then you put some ball at the beginning of the big cone which you should make out of a billboarded plane + some particles to spice it up: o<<

the last step will be to add that ribbon that is around the big cone. You could make it out of planes or out of ribbon emitters.

the next step is animating.
You will need 4 bones. The first bone will be the mother bone. You attach the ball, the small cone and the tip of the big cone to it. The second bone will be directed to the mother bone. this one will be for the upper half of the cones.The third bone is pretty much like the second one, but it will be for the lower half of the cone. The fourth bone will be direced to the mother bone aswell and will be for the ribbon.

The first bone won't need an animation. The second bone will move down-and-up (you will need a global sequence). The third bone will move up-and-down( also needs a global sequence). The fourth bone will simply rotate around the cone. (another global sequence)
