Onsalught Cinch is an excellent Warcraft 3 multiplayer map you can play on Battlenet. The game is based off of Cattlebrusiser's Onslaught (the creator having released the map as an open source) but most aspects of the game have been renovated with changes and new content added.
Here is a quick run-down on gameplay:
1. The game is played with two teams of one to six players apposing each other. For this reason, the game is best played with an even number of eight or more players.
2. Less than a second into gameplay, you will be directed over to a nearby tavern. You can hire one of twelve different heroes from there.
3. At the beginning of the game, all players will have a base (automatically spawns units and provides upgrades), an altar (revives heroes), and a mercenary camp (trains units). Take a good look at all of them. You do not have to defend these buildings - they are invulnerable.
4. The map has various points on it marked by tiled circles. Move your hero over to these circles to create a tower. The towers must be made in sequence. When your side has a chain of three towers, the enemy side's idol can be destroyed. Towers can be destroyed which may result in breaking a chain.
5. The goal of the game is to gain control of the map and destroy the enemy's idol. At the start of the game, both idols are invulnerable. When a chain is formed as described above, the enemy idol becomes vulnerable.
6. To accomplish this goal, work with your teammates by utilizing your heroes and armies together. Heroes become stronger by leveling and by holding various items purchased from shops indicated on the minimap. Armies become stronger through upgrades - and there are ALOT of upgrades.
More on Tiers and Armies
All Tiers start at Tier Zero. Each greater tier produces more powerful units. Tiers are also divided by type - tiers which produces Flying units, Tiers which produce Ranged units, and tiers which produce Melee units. Switching between tiers costs little and takes a minuscule amount of time. This is good since the different types of units are an Achilles' Heel to each other like in rocks-paper-scissors (flying bests melee, melee bests ranged, ranged bests flying).
Aside from tiers and type, there are upgrades which should be factored in. There are several upgrades:
-Attack Damage (up to 20)
-Armor (up to 20)
-Hit Points (up to 20)
-Movement Speed (up to 20)
-Bash (Melee only - up to 20)
-Feedback (Flying only - up to 20)
-Range Increase (Ranged only - up to 20)
-Evasion (up to 10)
-Spell Immunity (single upgrade - Final Tier only)
More On Heroes and Items
There are twelve heroes to choose from. A player cannot have more than one, though you can play without a hero (a side must have at least one hero at some point in order to win the game, however). All Heros are purchased at the tavern. All Heroes have their own strengths and weaknesses, so choose carefully; you cannot take back your purchase.
Each Hero has six abilities (except the Air Enhancer who does not have an innate ability, but he makes up for that by being a flying Hero); one innate ability, four normal Hero abilities, and one Ultimate. Innate abilities are already learned; up to five skill points can be put into the normal abilities, up to three for the ultimate. Since Heroes stop leveling up at level 20, three skill points will be sacrificed; spend skill points carefully.
Near the Idol there are four item shops. Items are very powerful and can be quite costly in terms of gold. There are two additional item shops in the upper center and lower center of the map. To the far left and the far right are special shops which can only be accessed by the opposing team.
There are also item recipes, which can be bought from the Altar of Kings. Item recipes create a new item when they are held along with two or more other items. You cannot sell item recipes, so only buy them if you intend to fulfill the requirements to create the new item.
