Questions about whispering on b.net

Apologies if this issue has already been solved, but I couldn't seem to find a fix for it.

Does anyone know what causes the problem with some people being unable to whisper on Battle.net and/or how to fix it? It happens to me, but my friend who just installed a fresh copy of the game has no problems at all. Running the game as administrator doesn't seem to do a thing, and creating a new account worked the first time, but doesn't anymore. I'm worried about having to install a fresh copy of the game, because my CD key booklets have been MIA for a decade or so, and money is tight around here.

This is a bnet issue and AFAIK not tied to cd keys. No one's quite sure what causes it but the most plausible idea I've heard is an overaggresive spam filter banning accounts from whispering.

There's definitely some sort of issue. Welp, as long as Blizzard is aware and working on a fix, I guess I'll get by.

Fyi, since Patch 1.28, I understand your CD-Keys are now stored in plain text as w3k files in your installation directory:

Be aware that playing online should not be attempted with modified game MPQ files as it could trigger anti-cheat protection and get your keys banned. If you must modify them, I recommend doing so to a backup install of Warcraft III.
