question about skinning

alright i have a question about skinning.I have edited the spell thief skin and i imported it into my game using
units\human\BloodElfSpellThief\BloodElf-SpellThief.blp and
units\human\BloodElfSpellThief\MakoBloodElf-SpellThief.blp
but the problem is that whenever i tried that nothing happened(all i edited was blue lines around everything and the lines ill post a pic if you want.
Now what i want to know is what did i do wrong?its my first time skinning so sorry if this is a noob question

i think i did something wrong cause theres no colors where they are supposed to be

Those where are no colors are the ares for teamcolour.
You sure you converted the file to BLP before you imported it to the map?

Hmm... It works for me with code Textures\BloodElf-SpellThief.blp

EDIT-yep it works now tyvm,and i was wondering do you like the concept?im currently upgrading it and heres a preview(my theme is to make a blood elf covered in ruby and has a constant flow of mana to power him and his movements

Well I think it's going well, but I can't really say, cause I just started to do some skinning too myself recently

skinning is easy if you just recolour but im not so sure about making custom skins i havent tried yet

But if you just recolour then people will judge you as a noob paint user or something

well not the normal recolor i mean like add details etc like i just uploaded the final vers of my skin so you can check it out in the skins section

Well it's hard to see anything from the screenie cause it's very poor quality
What do you think of my current work btw? (Gonna work hard on this one )

it looks good but kinda odd combo of colors purple an green?must be a exotic lobster!

Well that purple was it's base color
Gonna make it green and then add maybe some other colors
