I really want to start developing a modern post-apocalypse based map. (No not zombie apocalypse, but perhaps a few zombies could be in it...)
Here are my thoughts and decisions on the idea.
Almost certain to put in:
Ammo System: I want to have an Ammo system that works with currency (Gold and Lumber) and scrap you can hold in your inventory (this would work as gold/materials to build). I have already created a decent system that works well and remembers each particular gun's ammo and clips left.
Camera System: I DO NOT want to have the camera in first person or third person, it will be too annoying to work with.
Health and Damage: I want to make this somewhat difficult, so I'm thinking about having health, mana (energy) and damage be incredibly low.
e.g: A wander has 10 - 20 health and deals 5 - 8 damage, your hero will have 50 health with very slow health regeneration and deal the same amount of damage. So combat isn't the best choice to use first.
Stealth system: Thinking this through, the idea of stealth might sound odd in a map like this but considering I'm going to put some creatures in the map that will deal serious damage (e.g 20 - 30 damage) it would be nice to give the player another way around the problem rather than kiting.
It will work like this; When the player comes within a certain range of an enemy unit, that unit will see the player and attack it. This way you can't just sprint through the map in stealth.
Still Deciding:
Lore: Roughly the lore will involve a nuclear war (similar to the Fallout Lore) or have it's own structured lore with semi-realistic events that could occur over 50 years. My last thought is to throw you into the world with no knowledge of how the apocalypse happened and you discover what happened through quests and what not. What ever happens in the lore, monsters will be formed and so will hostile humans.
Map Style: Whether it will be a campaign like map, Free roam or multi-player still has to be decided.
Length and size: I honestly don't know if it should be a long map with lots of travel time (perhaps I could add fast travelling in?) or a smaller map with not as much in it.
These are just some thoughts on a map idea I'd like to work on. Comments, suggestions, criticism and thoughts, they are all welcome!
