poison stacking

2 parts:
1: with an ability based off the default envenomed spears where the damage is stacking, does setting the duration of the poison determine A) how long each stack lasts, or B) how long after the most recent stack the poison will disappear, with each stack of the poison lasting until that point? i tested it ingame, but i couldnt figure it out.
2: if it is B, how would i make an ability that can do A?
