Dear Hive Workshop
I am a long time lover of Warcraft III from the Czech Republic, playing the game since I was five years old. Always have I adored the complete Czech localisation for this beautiful video game, and, like many, consider it a national treasure of sorts. For many years now I have regularly replayed the entirety of the campaign of Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne on Christmas, as a favourite ritual of mine. Lately, however, with the acquisition of a new machine with a wider screen ratio, my beloved 1.26a no longer satisfies me as it used to in the olden days. The screen is simply too stretched. The RenderEdge fix doesn't cut it. The movie cinematics refuse to play properly. Long story short - I need an upgrade. Thus, I humbly come before you, wizards of the internet, with this request.
I would love to play Warcraft III 1.30.4 with the full Czech localisation, if this is even possible at all.
At some point Blizzard dropped Czech along with a few other localisations, and now those don't have any direct 1.30.4 files for easy download. The language can't simply be changed into it via the registry or other means to be 'downloaded on the go' either, because of the dropping.
Yet I truly desire to play the 1.30.4 version. I have learned here, searching through the forums, that it is perhaps the best option for the fullest campaign playthrough experience, in regards to bugs versus features ratio. Most importantly - it features the true widescreen support. Additionally - the ambiance sounds have been reenabled and the heroes inventories ought to work. A few lines of dialogue apparently don't trigger, but perhaps this could be solved manually, as I have seen on this very forum too.
That being said, i have no idea how this dream of mine could be achievable. Please belive me, I have scoured the internet in its entirety, so don't resort to the -
"Just google it and do it yerself, ye bum!"
- kind of downtalk. I am simply an untrained, surface user of technology. I can barely tickle something like an MPQ editor, whereas these forums could be frequented by sage computer wizards, who could truly aid me with this request. So once again I humbly plead.
My Problems
Stretched screen - Now that my screen is wider, the game is way too stretched and too 'zoomed in' to be truly enjoyable. The RenderEdge fix repairs the playing field, but leaves the UI broken and ugly. With RenderEdge, the portrait window shows all sorts of stuff which was supposed to be hidden, now that the UI is still stretched but the unit's face within it isn't. It also leaves the menu and the campaign backgrounds broken, as they too get squished, and now I can see out of bounds. Simply put, RenderEdge is not an option for a polished experience. Only the pre-Reforged true widescreen is.
Broken cinematics - It was the case for many people for a long time with old WCIII, that the cinematics played in a strange ratio, or with a sickly washed out colour, or both. This is the case with me unfortunately. No codec installation helped either. Once again - the modern 1.30.4 client has already fixed this issue.
Lack of support - Too bad for me. It is not as easy as downloading 1.30.4 from these forums, and simply setting the language as czCZ. This betrayal was the case since 1.28 I believe, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure, whether if one's game was Czech beforehand, the update kept it that way or not. In any case, I haven't found any repository or even a mention, if there is, or ever was a Czech variant of 1.30.4, though I suspect there was.
Czech Localisation
Would it ever be possible to achieve this request? Perhaps using local files and heavily modifying the game like this. Perhaps editing the MPQs somehow? I've only read about this wizardry but I can't really perform it on my own. Definietly not without a detailed guide atleast.
I have all the cinematics, melee maps, and I suppose somehow somwhere the campaign files - all in Czech - in the 1.26a I currently have installed. All the sound files too right? All of these could be 'moved' into 1.30.4 in one way or another, couldn't they? I have no idea how that would work, if at all, and that is why I'm here.
If these Czech files would be used directly, perhaps the campaigns wouldn't even feature any of the spoken line trigger bugs or other such brokenness, as the game would be using the 1.26a as such? (I have no idea if this is realistic - again - I'm just thinking out loud)
The thing is - what I truly desire is the full Czech localisation. This includes the spoken dalogues, but also the tooltips on all the ui elements, the menus, the campaign menus, the cinematics, all of it. The whole glorious picture.
This is my request - If someone could craft, or teach me how to craft, this version of Warcraft III, I would be eternally grateful. And that is not a hyperbole either, as WCIII might very well be my favourite game and one of my favourite things in life period.
Either way, thank you all!
