Hamachi is a application that lets you create virtual private network(Gives you LAN over the Internet.) Its very easy to use, the size is only 780kb and its free.

once you downloaded it, open it and click 'create new network', give it a name and a password if you want. And tell your friend to get Hamachi and click 'join existing network' and enter the network name and password if you have one.
