Overclocking cpu

Hello ,
I have Amd Athlon x2 64bit 5000+ , 2ma-vm-hdmi mobo and i want to overclock
it . But i am getting 70C under load , after hours of playing Starcraft 2 is it safe to overclock ? If yes tell me please how to do it throught bios . I did never did this so please be patient
Currect clock is 2.6ghz goal is 3ghz .

Look, I don't think you want to overclock it when your getting temps like that under load

Go buy a decent cooler, I can find one for you if you tell me how big the case is and the price you want. Also, Athlon 1 processors aren't known to be good overclockers, 3.0 might be pushing that little thing too much, because your also overclocking the Northbridge at the same time.

I am not knowledged with AMD processors but...

If you can overclock without raising the voltage then go ahead and try as you should not get too much extre heat. However that is unlikly which will mean you have to raise the voltage and with temperatures like that it would be very dangerous.

Heat generation is not linear. As the temperature of the component increases, it also generates more heat (resistance increases, especially on the actual chip interface) and so becomes harder to cool down. Obviously as the temperature rises, the dissipation rate will increase due to larger difference but that sometimes is not enough to prevent temperature rising until dangerous levels with some coolers.

I would advise trying to streamline your system while playing SC2 for optimum performance. For example exit instant messangers and steam while playing SC2. Consider closing 3D drivers if you are using an nvidia card. Defragment your hard disk (if not solid state). Close internet browsers that are not needed.

Also you might wish to turn down various CPU intensive options for SC2. EG lowering physics or turning of water reflections could boost game perofrmance at times while having minimal effects on what you see.
