would be easiest to just set up a clone unit of same type and make the attack that and then do a unit replace when you wanna change attacks.

That would be the best way as long as you want the change to be permanent, thats what you want right?
 
You mean like in Shooter maps where you press a hotkey and an attack comes out?
Well, there are several billions of ways. The basic build of it requires you to make a dummy instant-cast spell, like Thunder Clap, remove its effects and damage, and rename it. Use triggers to detect the start, and the actions will vary.
no, to replace unit attack with spell
 
i still am not sure what he wants but this is what im thinking he saying now.

You want when a unit is attacked, attacking unit (not use normal attack but make it auto cast a spell like storm hammer at the target he should be attacking?)

If so then do just that.

A unit is attacked
stop attacking unit
(if the attacking unit has the spell already then)
order attacking unit to use (spell) on triggering unit
(otherwise make a dummy unit for the player u want to have whatever spell casted)


If your just talking about wanting a graphic of attack affect change like the hero attacking with fire balls and change it to attacking with rockets then you would need to do a unit change, like what i was saying before. Thats what i thought you mean at first.
 
GEEZ, nobody understands the guy. He wants this: If i attack and shoot an arrow, after doing something, he wants to shoot not an arrow, but a rocket. NOW DO YOU GET THE POINT?

wrong lol, that would be replacing the missile model. which is actually VERY VERY easy.

he wants to replace a units Auto attack with a spell.

A peon has.. lets say.. 7-8(no clue if thats correct) damage on a normal attack, instead of that normal attack, he wants the Peon to use a spell like, lets say "Fire Storm".

The best solution for this is what Millzy said up above.
Give the unit 0 damage, or at least stop it from doing damage and then create a Dummy to cast the spell on the unit that would have been attacked.

HOWEVER.

the effect he wishes to acquire from a spell, can also be gotten by giving the unit the "barrage" (read Deffskuls comment) ability and setting the number of targets allowed to 3 or something. you'll need to add splash damage to your hero though.
Also this will fire at 3 different units at a time and deal AoE dmg in a certain radius around those 3 units.



i Recommend using the first option.
