I have been making a unit based off the mothership and have sucessfully copied all the models, weapons attacks etc

I want to now change the attack so that rather than shooting 3 beams from 3 different points on the mothership I want to have 6 beams firing from all 6 points of the mothership.

I have been having difficulty with this and would really likea bit of help

Also is there a way to make it so that attack would be able to split the beams between different enemies eg: if had 6 all of them target indepently so can fire on 6 targets at once?

thanks in advance

ok gonna try creating additional dummy beams which should fix the first part but all the attacks still always target the same unit.

how would I specify which point the beams would emerge from on the motherships model?

ok back to the data editor...

I've had a similar problem in the past with regards to Mothership beams. I was giving the mothership beam to the Battlecruiser, and wanted it to hit multiple targets instead of a single one.

For multiple targets, a search effect would probably work best, setting each "Persistent" effect for the beam to a search effect. I should try it out myself, but I'm guessing you could try to make a different search effect for each beam. This is only a hunch, but I bet that if you give each beam the same search effect, each beam will target the same unit the single search effect picked. Though, I could be wrong about this. ._. There's also using a single search effect for 6 targets, but that'd probably just shoot 6 beams at multiple targets from a single turret.

You already solved the 6 beam part, which is something I had to discover for myself while poking around in the mothership spell effect. I just duplicated the mothership beam persistent effects and added them to the set, which caused additional beams to fire. I just can't seem to get them to target completely different units, and even if you give each one their own search effect, I'm sure that a few times you'll get some of them firing at the same unit instead of at all 6 being targeted.

As for launch attatchment points, that's not too hard to do.

Go to the Mothership attack actor, and go to Launch Attatchment Query. I'd have to check the Mothership myself, but I bet if you create another attatchment point that applies to all of the Mothership's weapon attatchment points, it should work. You'd probably need to make an Attatchment pattern for it too.

I explain this a lot better in one of the help threads I posted, where someone asked a similar question. That's the link to the post.

thanks for the help I will try doing that tonight when I get home

also while I was making the 8 beams I came across a silly little thing that I found funny.

The beams would stay locked in that position even after the unit was deam

think I have managed to fix it though

ok managed after 2 long hours of work to get all 6 beams firing from different ponts. It looks awsome!

Now I have tried using a search affect but I'm a bit confused about how I would link all the effects

Would I link the search to the set or creat 6 different searches for each attack?

Effects are tricky little things. Some effects are final, others are linking and others branching. Some effects like damage ones will be the end of an effect chain. There is also one type of effect which sole purpose is to use more than 1 effect (branch). Then you have perodic effects which run an effect in order every interval for a time with optional effects at other times. You then have stuff like searches which only serve to help select the targets for final (ending) effects.

Im trying to write a guide on stuff like this but exams are bogging me down.
