So i am a little confused here. In the ability options it shows that it should be able to reflect both piercing attacks and spell as it has chance to reflect and amount of damage reflected. At first i noticed the ability made the target immune to magic which totaly defeated the purpose of it but after i managed to fix that with a trigger the ability still doesnt seem to work properly ( doesnt reflect piercing or spells but defend on footmen works just fine). Am i missing something very obvious here or is there more to it ? Thanks in advance.

Magic Defense grants spell immunity, but Defend doesn't.

Instead, Defend can reflect ranged "magic" or "piercing" damage attacks (not spells) back to its source, if you enable it to do so in "Advanced -> Gameplay Constants."
In addition, Defend can be used to reduce piercing AND magic OR spell damage taken by a % amount when active.

Also note: the % chance to deflect ranged attacks is based on a whole real number (ie: 25.00, 50.00) instead of a decimal (ie: .25, .50). So, make sure you use shift + enter to modify the deflect chance accordingly.

I am sorry but i will have to disagree. Defend can reflect only piercing damage attacks . Magic Defense on the other hand says that should be able to reflect both piercing attacks and spells(check the link i have uploaded a picture). The % are correct and it is enabled from Advanced -> Gameplay Constants . As i can see in game the animation on the shield for the reflect seems to happen but no projectiles bounce back to do any damage (values are set correctly) .

Yes, it says "Deflect Damage Taken Spells," but it's a mistype. It really doesn't. You'll see it only reduces spell damage from the Mountain King's Storm Bolt.
Check out the test map along with adjustments. You should be able to easily kill the Archers, Sorcerers and Frost Wyrm with the Captain.
You'll notice in this test the ranged magic damage that isn't deflected by the Frost Wyrm is halved, where deflected damage does nothing.

Now, if you swap to "Magic Defense" instead with the same numbers, you'll notice it gives magic immunity, but does still deflect piercing attacks. Magic attacks are not Spell damage, but Spell Immunity resists both Magic attacks and Spells.

Note the Game Data Set under Map Properties -> Options is set to "Melee (Latest Patch)"
