Loading data through jass timers

Hello there! What is the best way to load data through timers in jass (It has to be normal jass not vjass)? Hashtables seem the best in terms of difficulty (at least to me), but are there any other ways to load data through timers . I already know of using globals for indexing and such but is it any better?

TimeUtils uses a hashtable so that is certainly one way to do it. And that is most definitely not a vjass feature.

I'd rather not get into the debate about which MUI method is best so I'll just leave it at that.
