Big news for the professional StarCraft community, Korean television company GomTV has signed an exclusivity contract with Blizzard to broadcast several 64-player StarCraft 2 tournaments each with a prize pool of $125,000 according to ShackNews. These events will serve as preliminaries to a singular massive tournament slated to occur sometime in 2011. The goal of said tourney will be to find the best StarCraft 2 player in the world and presumably award him with fame within the gaming community and riches beyond his wildest dreams.
The tournaments will be broadcast in English with the commentary being done by Nick “Tasteless” Plott. The series starts this September and runs for the next 16 months. Tournaments will take place mainly in Korea with a few events elsewhere to give pros outside the People’s Republic of StarCraft a better chance to compete.
American pros will also be able to compete in MLG sponsored SC2 tournaments as they’ve just picked up the game and added it to their competitive circuit. The prize pool, however, will be nowhere near the massive amount promised by to the winner of the Korean tournaments.
