Item ability on Spell Book for a hero

If I create a spell book and give it to a hero,with an item abiility on it,the item ability will work ?

Another simple question - Liquid fire is only works for ranged units.Is there another abiility with the same effect but for melee ?FIre damage,dps,attack speed an dmovemetn slow,etc,etc.

Yes, item abilities inside spell books work.

Liquid fire works if you set "Combat - Attack X - Weapon Type" to "Missile" (range doesn't matter, can be melee as well).
If you set the projectile speed high enough, you won't be able to see the missile either.

Or, you can set the missile art into "Abilities - Lightning attack <missile>"....
(Why? Because there's nothing on it, so the missile is no missile... --no missile in sight, technically--)
