I grew up in a town where around the time I was born or slightly before, it was still illegal for people with dark skin to stay overnight in the town. This was maybe a short car ride away from the Klu Klux Klan center area in the US. But while that was happening nobody told me about it until I was an adult, they only told me that racism was an entirely solved problem in every way and that Martin Luther King Jr was great and he solved it all so now it's over.
Then I went to college and all the students were mostly asians from overseas or local people with light skin, and then they brought in the people with dark skin from over in a nearby Major City to serve us ice creams at university while presenters told us about possible careers.
Sometimes, just because I don't have a problem with something... doesn't mean I shouldn't have a problem with something. I'm not sure. Sometimes it's subtle and nobody thinks to say anything.
