It isn't as easy as a filter, though. Wc3 doesn't support those types of filters/masks (AFAIK). You would need to have custom skins or texture animations on all the models and then switch locally when dead/alive.
e.g. in Requiem, there is a separate texture for B&W and a regular colored texture. So I don't think there is an easy way to do it.
In NotD: Aftermatch, famous map back, when Wc3 was popular, there is a "green" mask simulating nightvision googles effect.
It is done via light model attached to triggering unit when specified ability was used. Whatmore, at first it modifies players vision, thus our "green" light gains greater effect.
