The quest "In search of the coldest breeze" is something like an event. Quests are now introduced to the public, as alternative events, that require the contestants to work with ideas and other assignments, depending on the goal of the said quest.
The second step is to substantiate the status of the ideas and the contestants and move everything into a playable map. Once everything is settled, the players will be divided into groups (random distribution) and eventually play the map online with their group. While we have the restriction of 10 players per map, I will be the spectator, while the rest are aiming for their assigned task.
Let's begin with the first step that regards this particular quest.
Shantara will be introduced as a boss on the map, whom you have to slay, in order to acquire the quest's proposed rewards. The map type will be identified as MMORPG, with all the relative functions, of which the shape will be determined by the outcome of the potential contestants.
As contestants, you are given two options,
- Either become a Hero, whose owner will eventually play the map. Heroes are the ones fighting against Shantara. If you choose this side, you are called to create your own hero, which mostly affects the design of the spells. Each hero has 5 (five) spells or skills, with no sub-skills allowed.
If you are a coder of your own, you are given the permission to create the hero in the World Editor. Damage, Movement Speed, Attack Speed and every other value that affects the gameplay of the hero will be edited, in order to fit the requirements of the map. Coding does not matter, whether it is in GUI or Jass, I only need something playable, with no bugs and no leaks. If there are any of them found, I will also edit them -of course, this does not mean that you will leave it as it; if you want the quest to progress faster, I need ready and efficient submissions-.
Each hero must have a theme, background story of course is not necessary, but the spells or skills must make sense with each other. A priest hero cannot have any dark spells for instance. Synergy between the skills (how well they bind with each other, gameplay-wise) is not mandatory, but it is recommended.
After the selection of the final heroes, you will be given time to master the gameplay of your hero, in order to maximize their fullest potential in the battle. You must be alerted in every case what skill of yours does what and based on your own logic, when to use them, in order to sustain enough mana or life, until the boss dies.
As a personal and example note, Resurrection skills are allowed, but their final output will require a lot of mana and will have a great cooldown. This means that if a hero wants to actually play a support-oriented character, such as a Priest, he should really be able to deal with everything in the battle, from healing to resurrection. Keep in mind that dead characters will receive a penalty of -50% in the drops of Shantara. Your hero should be identical to your experience in the gaming world, which characters really fit your abilities to cope with stress, with anger and your reflexes.
- Or become a Designer. Designers are the ones that will equip the heroes with armors, otherwise a hero cannot enter the battle. Each hero will eventually select anonymously an armor of their choice, with all of the armors listed as a private message. Once they will announce the armors of their choice to me, I will assign the heroes to that armor.
As a designer, you are not allowed to participate and play in the map. However, when a hero chooses your armor, you will appear as a merchant NPC (Non-Player Character) in the game, as if you trade you trade yours goods with the hero.
Designers are very important, despite their inability to play the map. A hero would not be able to stand in the battle without armor. If a hero picks your armor, you automatically pair with them and participate in the drops of Shantara. The designers will not be known, until the quest ends (not the map play, the quest).
Your task is to create an armor, consisted of 4 (four) parts: Weapon, Main Armor, Boots and Helmet. With the use of the word "create", it is implied that you only write what each of the armor pieces offer to the hero. Just like heroes, if you are a coder, you can create the armor pieces on your own, in the World Editor - four items with coding to back up their functionality.
You are again given two options
- Each armor set will give global bonuses to the hero or
- Each armor piece will give bonuses to the hero individually
- The armor sets will give a lot more (in power) statistical benefits than the individual pieces.
- The individual pieces, however, give you access to an important factor: you can bestow an ability to the weapon, turning the weapon into an active item, which the hero can use in battle.
Rules about the Armor Sets:
- An armor set cannot give more than 3 (three) benefits to the hero. An armor set can enhance any modifier of your hero, such as Damage, Attack Speed, Armor, Dodge, Health, Mana, Health Regeneration, Mana Regeneration, Critical Rate, Critical Power.
- An armor set cannot have an active ability.
- An armor set cannot have each component give different stats than the actual set.
Rules about the Armors with Individual Pieces:
- Each piece of the armor cannot give more than 2 (two) bonuses to the hero.
- Only the weapon can have an active ability.
- If the Designer chooses to give the weapon an active ability, the weapon cannot additionally be given a passive bonus. With that being said, you can also create an armor with the weapon bearing no skill at all.
- The bonuses that an armor piece can give will affect Damage, Attack Speed, Armor, Dodge, Health, Mana, Health Regeneration, Mana Regeneration, Critical Rate, Critical Power, with values lower than an Armor Set.
- Each piece cannot give two of the same bonuses, for example +5 Attack and +7 Attack; both bonuses must be different from each other.
- If you choose to give the weapon an ability, abilities that are excluded are: Heal, Resurrection, Mana Replenishment, Transformation, Summoning. Although this limits a lot of options, the point behind it is that the weapon's power should by no means exceed the power of a hero's skill or spell.
The second step is to process everything, add values and demonstrate the upcoming heroes the armors in sale. When everything is ready, chosen armors and heroes will be transferred in the actual map.
- If a group of people does not successfully slay the Ice Queen, that group is marked as unsuccessful and both the Designers and the Heroes will only receive a symbolic reward of reputation.
- Every submission must follow our Rules. Any submission that does not properly line up with our rules will be instantly disqualified and will be banned from the next Quest. Punishments may vary, depending on the severity of the problem.
- The map will be played on Battle.net.
- You need to make sure that you have a stable connection, in order to play in the map. If you have problems, you also doom your Designer, who invested their trust in you. Players that disconnect from the game will be replaced by a NPC (Non-Player Character), with no abilities and moderate weakness. When you sign up for the Quest, it means that you have understood this rule very well and that you have carefully chosen to participate under these terms. Other than the NPC, the player is irreplaceable. In very rare cases, the map may be replayed, but I need as a spectator to confirm that the problem was indeed no one's fault.
- One Designer can be appointed to one Hero, not multiple. Your armor can be chosen by multiple people from the group that you are playing with, but other groups will not have your armor as an option. Multiple people choosing your armor does not raise your reward.
- Volunteers that show signs of inactivity will be automatically disbanded from the contest. There will be no messaging about it, no begging and no warning. Once the date is announced, you are bound to know it and follow it.
- When the groups are divided, a decision with all the members of the group will be made, in order to determine the playing date.
- One hero cannot be simultaneously a designer and one designer cannot be a hero at the same time.
- Asking potential heroes to buy your armor is highly unacceptable and will lead to instant disbandment of both persons.
- Heroes will be known to each other, so you are free to find each other online and practice yourselves, in order to get organized and discuss what skills you will be using and when.
- WiPs are not required. In order to avoid a full inbox, post your submissions in Admin Contact. Set the title to "Quest: [Participant's Name] - [Role] (Hero or Designer)". Once I process the values, I will send you the final hero, in order to be aware of the exact output and maybe discuss strategies with other heroes.
- The reward of chat color and chat rank icon cannot be received by the same person. One reward will go to the Hero and the other to the Designer. If both of them want the same reward, then it is also an acceptable deal. If, under these conditions, the chat color or the chat icon are not rewarded, then no one else will be able to access them.
- Each battle against Shantara does not guarantee the group of people that the chat color or the chat rank icon will be obtained. The rewards are listed as follows:
The rewards, except for the Ice Queen's Tiara, have 100% chance to drop. The Ice Queen's Tiara has a chance of 60% to be dropped.
- Every match will be streamed. Further details about the hosting site and the dates will be given when the first group is going to battle against Shantara.
- The award icon of the Ice Queen's Tiara, visible in this post can be obtained by the pair of the hero & designer that got the item as a drop.
- The Ice Queen will have 3 (three) stages, which will not be revealed to anyone. Certain actions and mechanics may be needed by the players in order to lessen the power of each stage, which you will have to realize at that very moment. All you need is communication and organizing. Hints may be available by me, in real time.
The Quest has not started yet, do not send any submissions. You can however start to shape your heroes and armors now that you are in a relaxed state and not under the pressure of the Quest. Estimate your available time; depending on the activity, the more sufficient and ready-to-go submissions I receive, the faster the Quest will be materialized.
This thread will open upon the release of the cinematic.
