  • Download MPQ Editor
  • Extract the content inside .zip into a folder
  • Check whether your PC is x64 or x86, open file explorer, right click on This PC, properties, find System type, and see which one.
    • If your PC is x64-based, open MPQEditor.exe from \YourMPQEditorFolder\x64 folder
    • If your PC is x86-based, open MPQEditor.exe from \YourMPQEditorFolder\win32 folder
  • Click file, click open MPQ(s), browse through your WarCraft 3 folder, find War3.mpq (Reign of Chaos) and War3x.mpq (Frozen Throne)
  • Browse through the folders inside MPQ Editor, find a folder called map, there should be another folder called campaign inside it, find the campaign you want to edit, right click on that campaign and choose extract.
  • You can find the file you extracted in \YourMPQEditorFolder\x64\Work or \YourMPQEditorFolder\win32\Work

The campaign map files for Warcraft 3 are stored inside the MPQ files (War3.mpq and War3x.mpq). To open those files, you need MPQ Editor.
In case you want to extract all chapters from the "Founding of Durotar" campaign (especially Act 2 and 3), they are located in "War3Patch.mpq". The vanilla TFT's MPQ file doesn't contain the map files for Act 2 and 3. Legacy builds of Warcraft III deployed all patch content and changes inside "War3Patch.mpq", which is why Act 2 and 3 map files are located there. You need an appropriate listfile to open the "War3Patch.mpq" as well.
Also, if you are using the very latest version of the game (Reforged builds), it is possible to edit the campaign maps directly through World Editor. They are located in the "Blizzard Campaign" section.

Turns out, MPQ master v1.2.0 is the better tool. But the procedure is still pretty much the same. Open MPQ Master, go to File -> Open, find the related MPQ file ( As explained by @Ravager16829 )

In your case, the related MPQ files are not War3.mpq and War3x.mpq, but War3xlocal.mpq and War3Patch.mpq, make sure to select Warcraft III when you are prompted to select a listfile. When you're done just browse through the folder and find the campaign files you want to extract, right click on said file and then extract it somewhere on your computer.

Thank you for providing a detailed information. It was even detailed in the FAQ of this thread:
Where are official maps stored?
Starting with ROC 1.11 TFT 1.12 patches, the file (listfile) is not stored in War3Patch.mpq, but in the patch.exe file and is fed during installation.
1.00-1.27b:
Blizzard Maps are stored in exe patch (copied to \Maps\ during the patch, replacing the old ones)
Blizzard Campaign are stored in war3.mpq (ROC) + War3xlocal.mpq (TFT) + War3Patch.mpq (TFT_OrcX2)
1.28 - 1.29.2.9231:
Blizzard Maps are stored on Blizzard servers (copied to \Maps\ during the online patch, replacing the old ones)
Blizzard Campaign are stored in war3.mpq (ROC) + War3xlocal.mpq (TFT + TFT_OrcX2)
1.30.0.9900 - 1.32:
Blizzard Maps stored in CASC
Blizzard Campaign stored in CASC
Also, I'm pointing out that if you are using either 1.28 or 1.29 and want to extract ROC campaign map files, you are going to open the "War3Local.mpq". But since this topic explained about opening TFT campaign map files, you only need "War3xLocal.mpq" (or "War3Patch.mpq", in case you want to open Act 2 and 3 of Orc campaign map files). Of course, "War3Patch.mpq" requires an appropriate listfile.

I really don't use MPQ Master. It's pretty much old and has some compatibility issues with later Windows versions:
