How would I 'attempt' at making a 'hadouken' type spell ?

I just need some guidance in the right direction with tackling this sort of spell creation.

My only thought is:
- get a bunch of units with a certain 'laser' effect and situate them in a line and move them simultaneously over x seconds from point A to B, which will have that beam effect ?

Help please !
