How to make an AoS map more unique

There are many ways( I'm amking a AOS map too) you can use custom font, tiles, models/skins. But this is just all too common, I recommend custom user interface, font, and minimap image,and a diffrent concept from all the others( like mine is"when blood elves seek what is there:there is war) you probaly want something like see wars AOS where you can choose between naga and the sinisyter murlocs( there are lots of cool murloc skins)

And also a very important factor is the map, maybe make something very diffrent like a hell VS heaven terrain, or under the sea terrain, there are many factors that include uniqueness

Instead of playing the Heroes you play with the minions :p
You have to create different kinds of minions and you acquire the resources/get minion upgrades through the heroes.

It'd require a good AI for the heroes to make it interesting or you could have 4 players: 3 heroes and the minion master.
 
And whether you want custom models,skins or not.if you want them then you must consider project members, then you can ask them to make you unique models and skins which will be found only in your map...

And then later on when you map gets all the glory you release a resource pack with all the models and skins inside of it, that will further increase you hits

Since the release of tft I played nearly every AoS map released on the hiveworkshop, because I simply love this genre. Dota corrupted people's view on these maps and trying to do something unique is nearly impossible from my point of view.

But if you want to do something special you could break down the genre to its' essential parts which are ...

  • two or more factions fighting each other
  • spawning creeps/minions fighting on lanes
  • heroes

... and then you can start filling the gaps. For example:

You could start with the end.
I mean, what do you want to be the goal. Destroying a base, killing the enemy boss, capturing the enemy base or get a specific number of points etc

Then you could think about, "do I realy need towers? or a jungle?...".

Only differentiating via imports is bullshit. The multiplayer map limit is 8mb so you should import only things you REALY need. UI and fonts have a big file size and therefore are not recommended.

Add quests.
More game mods (like the one in Extrmeme Candy War where you push the creeps until boom!)
Weather.
When it rains -move speed or when it snows -attack speed.
An atomic bomb that falls from the sky.
And a crazy grandpa with a minigun.

i recommend listening to this guy, as i believe he has the right idea
