One can replace the default generated minimap file with a custom one using the import manager.
It is possible the crash is caused by an malformed BLP file. Try using Imperial BLP to create the custom minimap BLP file as it was designed with a better understanding of the BLP file format than other tools.

The minimap image was taken from another map and was not edited by anyone. Can someone do the same thing without that crash error?
