Or you could replace the button image with your custom (change both "Image" and "hover image"), that can even look the same, but has a different color.
Yes, it is crappy solution indeed, changing tint color would be better.
While browsing textures I found the borders for Dialog Items, and there are 3 textures, one for each race. That means there is no tint color, it's just different images. You can export and recolor them, and then either use them as the Image or Hover Image, OR replace the original textures with them, so they get used automatically.

Propably using some of the Zerg text styles. Those are saved in some file in mpq archive, so technically they could be replaced by importing new file. Sorry I can't give you any names though
