[General] How to add a buff to an owning unit?

How to add a buff to an owning unit? Is adding an ability to it the only way to make it happen? If so, which ability does not have an icon? Because even if I do not set an icon in the Object Editor, there will still be an icon of such ability in game ( a smiling face of a man......)

You can use item armor bonus and set the field "item ability : false" and set the bonus to 0.

if it's not a hidden abilities, put it inside a spell book and disable the spellbook through trigger
Remember, Channel won't work without a trigger
