aw crap. that was one of the reasons i liked this database. please tell me your kidding... if we get several thousand maps on this site its going to SUCK. cant we do this like wc3campaings and go for quality not quantity (but not be as strict as wc3campaigns).

its not. but it is bad to have 5000 maps in the database because then theres so much crap people wont come here when looking for a good map. they'll come here if they know the name of the map they want, but not to sort through it.

I don't think you understand, Ralle's just going to use his server space and bandwidth to host wc3sear.ch, not merge with them.

If there is a merge, hopefully Ralle and those working on the sites can get a powerful search engine and map categorization in place. That will definitely help us find the exact maps we want in a large database.

Well if there is to be a merge, then if we are gonna use our download system then it will have to be perfect, and I believe Ralle told me sometime its not completly finished yet.

Also I no that were all talking about it, but have any of the wc3sear admins actualy agreed to even consider merging the sites yet? Nope, so nothing like that can be done until they agree (if they havn't).

And if we are gonna merge, then as Oblivion said we should probably want a more powerful search engine.

And if we do merge I think we should delete all of rages posts from wc3sear.

I would prefer a merge if it was done properly and the wc3search database of ressources and maps were moved along to the new merged site, also both of the forums members and posts and such should be combined aswell so I don't lose my post counts :p

That would be a problem, considering there may be people on both sites with the same account name who are different people, what would you do in a case like that?

when this is merged, I will stay with the two accounts, or one of them will be deleted?

I will talk to all the admins about merging before I even consider it..

Based on what Ralle said, the idea of a merge is just that, only an idea at this point. Until then, wc3search and Hive will probably remain as separate sites running alongside each other.

maps are a waste of resources on sites like this anyways.
the most important things to have are icons and models- you can
download maps in game through wc3 or websties devoted to these paticular maps (if they're good maps of course. why would you want to play any bad maps?) and art can be submitted to blizzards fan art site, barely anyone who submits to art (i'm talking about on wc3sear.ch) has anything worth looking at.

having version 1.13412modded by XxbadassxX and 1.1313 modded by 1)eadman is a waste of resources, yes.

having good maps like elemental td 3.0 isn't.
(the maps i mentioned above aren't real, but you get the picture of the countless people who upload horrible mods of maps onto websites like this)

and yes even good maps are a little odd to have, since they can EASILY be downloaded when they are hosted on WC3. OR from a website that is FOR this map.

No, they can't be easily download from hosted games as people often kick downloaders, and how are you going to find the site for the map if you don't have the links to it, which are likely in the map? And how are you going to find out that the map is good in the first place.

by playing it first on battle.net
most hosts DO let you download.
and if one doesn't, it's not going to ruin your life- you'll find another soon.
find links by googling the map's name, it's not that hard.
all i'm saying is when you can't dl models or icons from b.net, but
you can maps, and art isn't necessary for mapmaking, then why waste resources on the maps and art in place of the necessary icons and models?

but anyways, we've both made our points now. no more need to argue it :infl_thumbs_up:

You clearly arent a map maker dark_nite. Most people dont like to play maps they know nothing about, thats where sites like hive come in. People submit maps here and other people can read the description of the map and comments on what other people thought of the map. And then make up their mind if they want to try the map.
You can never mount up to the visibility that your map gets from sites like this by only hosting the map now and then on bnet.
Saying that the maps section should be removed because it's easy to download maps on bnet is pretty silly.

I could relate to what you were saying in the beginning, nobody likes to see copies of maps with only "modded by mr.x" at the end, and thats why hive has its aproval system. But then you took a horrible wrong turn to left and all your points seem absurd to me.

Oh god, I'm gonna be playing alot of wc3 in my two months of holidays >.<...

well its summer to you australians! XD, we're having cooold winter here...

well if we are gonna get the resources of wc3s.. we are gonna put it all in the approve-queue.. So everything will be looked through

well you will need at least 5 mods ONLY for maps:sad:

I don't see how that could have made me any less of the mapmaker I would have been if i said that a resource section for maps was good. But nevertheless, I am a mapmaker. When I finish with my current project, I shall post it in the Maps section

So wait, your saying that we shouldn't have a maps section but when you have done your map you are going to submit it to the maps section?

As well I will tell you all of the reason I like having a maps section: Advertisement. I can't be hosting 24/7 to get my map out there. It just doesn't fit my schedule. With a site like the Hive, that has quite a few members, I can post my map and people can download it, try it out, and post feedback without me having to host it, and they can do it any time they want and on their own time. Also, we are going to have moderators for the resources section, so they will control the inflow of maps so that no crap and no cheap ripoff stuff gets submitted. And if people have problems with their maps being denied they can post on the forums and the mods will sort out with them why it was denied and what they can change so that in the future it will be approved.
