im afraid i can not figure out how to use either MPQFS nor mpqextractor :|

Use this instead. It worked for me.

I like RMPQEx is the best because it is guaranteed to work on any mpq, even if it's encrypted or otherwise protected. It can also extract files even if the filename is unknown.
