how can i solve a game sound problem

i have sound in windows but whenever i start a game i get no sound there. that causes issues with all games that requires sound to work properly.(not warcraft 3 though). it was a sudden issue because earlier today everything worked properly. i am completely out of ideas.

Have you tried turning it off then on again?

now i have tried that but still no sound in games. that actually made it worse because now i get no sound in windows either. i tried to reboot but then my anti virus program was turned off though i managed to turn it back on. at least after the reboot i have sound again.

Have you tried unmuting audio in Windows?

Have you tried different speakers?

i did try connecting to the tv by hdmi which uses a different sound card present on the graphics card. rebooting solved the problem though.

Go to the game options and try different output devices in future. It is possible that the "default" output device becomes one you do not want it to be. This usually happens when plugging in new output devices as sometimes they become the default (eg headphones).
