I don't remember ever seeing that in Dark Deeds.
Well, impossible it is not, you can create a custom unit for the name of every existing player on Battle.Net, which is, of course, ridiculous.
What you might have seen is a floating text.

It is impossible to change a unit's name, so you couldn't have seen such a thing.

Island Troll Tribes features a trigger that allows you to change your hero's name to anything you want, so it is possible, but sadly I don't know how it is done.

I once saw a system here(i forgot the name of it) where you could write a name(or whatever) in a chat box, than that name appeared as a hero name. But i forgot the name of the system D:

You have dreamt it. People keep saying they have seen it *somewhere* but can't find it back. Please, prove me wrong or get over it...

What is possible is changing a player name, what isn't possible is changing a unit name nor a proper name of a hero.

I remember the story of the game where you can type in your name an thus name your hero. It was about murder in a small town and you have to find out who is the murderer. It was a single-player RPG with dialogues.

Well I don't think it's possible, in GUI anyways, but here's a link to a similar topic, though it doesn't seem they figured it out.
