if i dont have a backup solution people are going to get angry at me if the first solution fails. people are already angry at me for failing to complete the job today. if i fail again i will be fired from that job. therefore i need addition solution today as backups in case the first doesnt work.

Two common sense solutions.
1. If the drive is encrypted, you are doomed and cannot do anything to recover the data.
2. If the drive is not encrypted, load the hard disk in another computer as a slave and copy off all important information. Reinstall the OS on the hard disk (which you backed the information off) and give your account a password which you remember. Copy back all the information from the other computer to it.

The password system only offers very basic protection unless the drives are encrypted. Encrypted drives should be used on laptops in case they are stolen or lost to prevent people from accessing the data via method 2. Ultimately a disk is nothing more than a slave so unless the data you store on it is password secured, anyone can access it if they have access to the disc.

I'd rather suggest to him: Don't put password anymore, that way you surely won't forget it
