Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to help me with an issue I have had.

I recently started playing the two-player campaign with my brother and at one point mid level we saved and left. Then when we later tried to go back into our game at the save point, my brother couldn't join the game and this error message appeared:

"The saved game file you possess for this game is different than the creators saved game file. You either were not in this game when it was originally saved, or your saved game file is corrupted."

We were both in the game when it was saved and I don't know why the save file would be different or corrupted. I googled for a while trying to find a solution but couldn't find anything. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but does anyone know what the problem is?

Hi, I have a bit of an alteration to my previous cry for help.

I actually haven't received that specific error again that I mentioned, but now what happens is every time my brother tries to join a saved game that I load he immediately gets spit back out to the same LAN menu and can't join our game.

Has anyone ever encountered this before? And if they have, I would very much appreciate a helpful fix.

Hi, thanks for responding. I can confirm that despite doing exactly as you suggested, once more the second player that tries to join the game that is being loaded from a save, gets instantly sent back to the previous menu. Is there perhaps some sort of troubleshooting guide I could go through to determine if everything is how it should be? I don't know, just spitballing.

What version was the map saved on and what patch version are you guys running and through what are you using LAN (e.g. GameRanger or just direct cable connection)?

We were trying to play the 2player Sentinel Campaign by McQvaBlood, so it was the most recent version. Patch 1.29.2 is the patch version. And we use a local network over a small switch and a cable modem. Is this the right information?

Yeah, I have no idea why it does that then. Did you try other maps to see if this still happens? You might want to write about this on @McQvaBlood's map thread/forum.

Yeah, it does the same thing on other 2p maps, like for example the Archon Mode Campaign, and it also happens on regular melee games. Other people can do this right? It's not like a patch issue or anything is it. It's just so weird, cause it doesn't seem to be an common occurrence, if at all, for anyone else.

It's not the end of the world or anything, it just bugs me when I can't figure something out, also it is a bummer cause it basically makes playing maps like the 2p campaigns unplayable because one mistake and you have to start the whole map over again. Well, I guess I will keep researching and trying new things. Thank you for your help. =)

Yeah, I did make a post in the classic games support forum, and bumped it, but so far no one has responded. I also chatted with a support guy but he had no clue and could only recommend that I make a post about it.

I'll go ahead and share two videos I made recently screen-capturing what exactly happens (there is music in the second one, you can mute that). I will also continue asking in the support forums.

And as for "exact same patch version" I'm not exactly sure what you are referencing. Perhaps the full set of numbers in the bottom-right of the Main Menu? Beyond just "Patch 1.29.2" it is 1.92.2.9231 - but yeah we both do have that same number on our screens.

Leaping Monkey should have a smaller name without space. Try that, it's kind of stupid though.
About the error, well, are you sure you both have the save file? If it doesn't work, back it up and try sending your save file to each other and see if it works, first, you to him, him to you and then each with the other's save file.
So, you and your friend can join and play any map but only loading is the problem?

Hi, so I checked the saves again and we both had Ooh Holy Light (Archon Mode – First Human Mission) and Aw Man (Melee), but turns out that P2 did not actually have the Test (McQvaBlood – Sentinel Campaign) save for some reason, so we made a new save and tried to load it and the error message did not show up. So I think I can check off that as simply being caused by a missing save file. That just leaves the mystery of P2 has joined game/P2 has left game, which still happened to our new save/load…

And yes, we have no problem creating and joining fresh games and playing them. Just loading a save.

Also, are you saying in your post that I should send him my version of Aw Man (for example) and have him send me his version and that might do something? If so, then yeah I’ll try it. I just wanted to confirm that’s what you meant. Thanks!

Do a backup of your (bot of you) current saves. Try your saves both of you, then try his saves both of you and then just try exchanging and see if it works.
Did he try shortening his name? Just for a test let him be ASD or something and see if he gets kicked out.

I'm wondering if it's an issue with the current patch version not saving properly (folder or the file at all) in multiplayer...
You should try with another person and see if this still happens.

Hi, so I had some time to test further, and I found some moderate success!

So I backed up the saves, and we tried to load our saves (with his name shortened to Leaping) and it still didn't work when I tried to load them (I saved them in the first place), but then for some reason, when we loaded 2 or the three saves from his computer I was able to join! Which is weird because we had already tried that before and it didn't work then.

So, now the only one that won't work from any angle is the save "Ooh Holy Light".

I also tried exchanging the saves to see if that could help but neither of the computers recognize the saves of the other. As for testing with another person/computer I have not yet had an opportunity to test that.

Yet even though we have had a partial success, I still don't know what is causing this to happen, or if it could still happen again in the future.

Save as often as you deem necessary on different files each time (3 suffice).

Have you read the thread(s) of the map you're playing? Maybe someone had the same issue?
Testing with another person (with the same patch version, of course) would help informing if it's a problem on your end or not.

Yeah, I have read the threads of these specific maps and projects, and I just now reread them, and no one else has reported having this problem. This leads me to think that the problem lies not with those maps but either one of the Wc3 patches or else on my end.

I will be able to do more intensive testing, quantity wise (maps and saving) and also with another person either later today or at some point in the next couple of days, after which I will report the results.

(Edit: Actually, I have decided to do more extensive testing, involving lots of variables, so as to hopefully record some more useful patterns of when and how the error occurs exactly. After it is done though, I should have a lot of great data to help pin down the likely cause. This means though that it might be a week or two till I post the findings, because I'm already busy with real life things. P.S. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my little problem I have here. I'm very grateful.)
