I'm trying to make an ability that only effects Undead units. If I set the 'Targets Allowed' to Dead will that get me the results or just allow it to affect corpses?

The ability is an armor buff that only affects Undead units. I used Inner Fire as the base.

Also, is there a way to add a chance to miss (evasion) without using triggers? My trigger comprehension right now is extrememly basic.

There's no way of making them target undead. You could look at Darky's scripts in the RoTD campaign. There's a ring that makes a magical force which damages undead units around the caster. I think I have an idea of how to make this but i'm not sure and I don't want to give you false options.

I just want to create a spell that

1) Is single-target
2) Costs mana
3) Adds a small armor buff [1,2,3]
4) Adds a small chance of evasion [5%,10%,15%]
-this in part because of the nature of the spell
enemies may strike a bone spike and not actually
'hit' the unit the spell is cast on
5) ONLY affects Undead units

The only abilities I could think of to base it off of were Death Coil, Death Pact, and Dark Ritual because all of those are single target and affect only Undead units. But I'm not sure how to get the armor buff and evasion w/o using triggers.

Since I don't understand trigger writing all that well, I was just wondering if it could be done. I would much rather do it myself and learn from the experience than ask someone else to do it for me as a request.

base it off death coil because death pact and dark ritual kills the unit.

use a dummy unit to cast a negative integar farie fire.
create a dummy evasion spell and give it to the target of ability being cat. every 1 second or so, check if the unit still has the buff, if not, remove the evasion.

All of which requires triggers. So to answer your question, yes you need triggers.

death coil wonk work...it can target living too...

if you dont use tuaren (or whatever the bull things are called) in your map you can set all undead units to be tuaren and make the spell effect only tuaren...
use it as last option only...this kind of mixes tend to make a mess...
