Help improving my icon?

So I am new to icon making as well as photoshop. I decided to try making an icon. I made this quickly with some simple liquefy work. Any tips on making it... more real looking?

Looks like flames or spikes. Maybe add some ''object'' in the middle, like orb, sword or smth.

You clearly need somekind of presented object, matter or situation.

Dont think they look like flame :/, these are orange tribals.

Even flames have highlights

Matter is missing.... Add an arrow on the middle of the icon..

Only thing i would suggest is too add more effects going through the roots or whatever the orange things are.

Yes you did say, id try to make my own icon...

Failure.... you just took the image put it into paint and made it bigger, sharpened it.
