Hello,

Alot of people who play my map: Lordaeron the Aftermath are having crashes while the map is loading, I have no idea why this could be happening but this is obviously a huge annoyance for people who've waited patiently for the game to start and then crash before it even begins...

Any suggestions or help is hugely appreciated in fixing this! I've reported the crash log further down but here is some basic info:

- This crash does not effect everyone, some times people will crash and sometimes they won't, so it appears to be random.

- The map is quite large, includes costom models and textures and a lot of different object editor data, triggers and variables.

- Map is protected and optimised by: 5.0wc3 map optimizer

- Some models have had their animations removed using Oinkerwinkles Anim remover, does this tool cause problems?

- Crash is not a WE Editor crash, this happens when players are loading the map in WC3 to play it.

- Error message reads: This application has encountered a critical error:
Not enough storage is available to process this command.

- I have multiple crash reports, and they all seem to crash with the same error report (they crash while loading this banshee unit).

The error log reports an object with the tooltip "Supporting caster. Can initially cast Curse, which causes enemy units to occasionally miss in combat. Can also learn Anti-magic Shell and Possession. |n|n|cffff8000FACTION:|r |cffb9ffffForsake..."

So I assume it is an edited banshee unit. I can't guarantee that this object is causing the problems, but it is worth trying to delete the banshee and see if those people still experience the crash. Does that banshee use a custom model?

Also, does the crash happen every time that person opens the map? Are they running a mac by any chance?

Maybe the settings of your map are all HIGH. So, if some people who set his/her Warcraft 3 settings to MEDIUM, the map won't start. (It happens on Shadows of the Past)

Is this World Editor Error? If yes, you can't open a Map in WE while it's protected.

I'm a normal player so i'll share my feedback with the mapmaker gods!

There are 2 types of crashes.

One is the loading screen one which is the main issue as there is often 1-2 people that crashed in it.
This is an example of that crash.

2nd type is the classic in-game crash which happens in some games, and in others it doesn't.

There's some edit to the banshee that causes issue.
Do what Purge said and see the result :)

I work with Marshmalo on the map.
In the previous version of the map we had the same kind of crash, but it was indicating a different unit, after removing that unit, the crash didn't go, and we ended up with WC3 indicating another unit (the one based on the banshee)
We checked this banshee based unit and it doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it, we suspect the problem comes from something else.

This is one of the old crash logs :

We were able to identify the unit by the upgrades "R042", "R02A" and "R003" and the missile model it uses (there was only one match)
After removing this unit, we started having the new crash log mentionned by Marshmalo in the first post.

Note that these crashes don't happen everytime, they happen randomly, a single person can play a game normally, and crash on the next one.

And thanks for your help !

Perhaps it's something from the triggers.
Disables all trigger and see if random crashes occurs, these kind of crashes are the most tedious ones to fix actually.

Thanks for your help but can triggers cause loading screen crashes ? I'm pretty sure they don't considering we have no triggers that fire at map initialization.

And the map isn't playable without the triggers so we can't release a version and ask people to test it, if it was a crash that happens everytime, one can remove the triggers and test, but since it happens randomly, we can't really know if it got fixed :/

I think someone had an issue with upgrades crashing their map in the past. So if you identified those R042, R02A, and R003 upgrades, then you may want to consider removing those instead.

Fang also covered a common issue: are all your testers using video settings on high?

The only way to debug such crashes is exhaustively testing. It'll be frustrating, but it'll lead you closer to the issue. First you would delete all triggers, and test until you get the crash. Next you would delete all imports, and test until you get the crash. Finally, delete all custom objects and test until you get the crash (obviously this would all be done on a backup of the map).

Crashes can happen for many reasons, so it is difficult to tell the exact reason without having access to the map.

The community didn't change, the crashes didn't happen in the previous versions, and then it started happening randomly to everyone, so I doubt everyone just decided to set their graphics to medium/low in the same time.

The upgrades (and a few suspect units/triggers/abilities) were removed for a test version that has been released, we'll see how that goes.

Next you would delete all imports, and test until you get the crash. Finally, delete all custom objects and test until you get the crash (obviously this would all be done on a backup of the map).

Crashes can happen for many reasons, so it is difficult to tell the exact reason without having access to the map.

Exhaustive research will be quite a pain, the map is huge.
But we'll soon have no choice but to do as you said, we just hoped that someone had the same issue and resolved it.

Thanks for your input !
