Explain why you gave a shock to the handrail instead of the opposite?

There must be some text before. Evidently both your hand the handrail got charged with opposite charges. Did any rubbing occur? I suppose the handrail got negatively charged and the hand positively charged, causing electrons to move to the hand and cause the shock feeling.
