JASS is a good primer for any sort of computer programming, and vJass/NewGen make it easy with a huge function list where you can SEARCH.

GUI uses 500000000 drop boxes. I cant stand it.

JASS is faster, easier, and much more able to do ANYTHING. Without lcoals, I dont know how I'd ever code.

And then vJass comes in, and steals portability.

Have you ever tried to get a GUI spell? Tkaes like 10 minutes. a vJass? CnP, change some ids and you're done.

JASS all the way.

To me, GUI has helped me think more as how I would imagine a programmer would think. Step by step processing, usage of variables, storing values, etc.

In this respect, GUI has been invaluable. It has provided a user friendly means to a thought process that I am grateful for, and I'd argue that this is the true value of GUI, and that it can be translated to other coding much like learning your first programing language.

I haven't yet made the jump into Jass, but I look forward to it. The things I have learned in GUI will no doubt help me in the transition, which would have likely been impossible for me before. I just have to switch my thinking from memorizing all of the GUI functions to memorizing the syntax of Jass, and I think I will be good to go. The thought process doesn't seem much different.
