This model is awesome. It looks nice in Magos and I think it would looks even better ingame though I'm not really a fan of the death anim, I'll still give it a 4.5/5
I understand that it's intended use doesn't require this, but it would really enhance its flexibility if you would give it attack and spell animations. It's also quite blurry, which isn't really an issue when it's used as a tiny drone, but some cleaner texture wrap would be nice just in case somebody wanted it to be larger or have a closer look at it during some sort of shooter or cinematic.
4/5.
Blurry? Are you referring to the TC on the legs? Why would I give it attack and spell animations? It can dig underground, that's spell enough. Giving this model attack animations that isn't a detonation is just stupid. I mean come on. Not only would that undermine the entire concept I got going for it, it's like giving the goblin sappers a sword and a bladestorm ability. It's rather dumb imo
You have to realize that this is an online resource; people might want to do different things than what you specifically intended for it. They might want it to have a spell animation in which it might shoot out a bullet, release a bomb, place a mine under itself, blow itself up, or something like that.
Yes, I can see that it's clearly intended to be for a unit that would dig and travel under, then come up behind, spy, etc, but there is a wide variety of other things it would be good for if it had a spell animation for it. It doesn't have to be anything super; just some sort of animation, other than going underground.
Love this model; as aforementioned, it's just awful cute. :3 I almost liked the old "non-TC" eyeballs better, but this form gives it less soul, more like a generic automaton (which, I suppose, was the point).
In regards to the discussion @ hand... MiniMage, I see where you're coming from. You are making things for you, and just being kind enough to share it with others. Therefore it follows that there shouldn't necessarily be any impositions made on you by others (aside from moderators) in terms of being able to upload it (assuming, of course, it fits the minimum standards (which this probably does)).
However, I also see what TLINferno is trying to say... I don't feel like he's trying to "tell you what to do", but he does raise a good point; there are a few small things that could increase this excellent resource's "utility" exponentially. Certainly he is not requiring you to do it (and don't worry about his system of judging; it's just numbers. Just a way to express a thought), but often modelers have some interest in making their stuff have a wider "utility latitude". For example, some people will include a Hero version of their model (or include both Decay & Dissipate anims) so others can use either Hero or Unit... Another example might be creating a 'built-in' Portrait (as opposed to a separate Portrait model), as this makes it easier for others to download and install the model. Others might throw a few more animations on there; not because it's strictly necessary, but because it's fun, and makes it more useful overall.
Anyway, like I said, it's your thing. No one here (aside from moderators) can really tell you what to do with it, but we can suggest things (selfishly or otherwise ) that would result in an overall enhanced resource.
Hope that made sense, and no offense (hey that rhymed! ). Keep on making the models you love; we enjoy them all!
Eh well, I donno. There's a couple factors in play here though. Lack of time and lack of direction. How would an attack animation given to a detonating machine look like?
How would the spell animation look like? I personally have no idea. Portraits are tricky and time consuming.
It doesn't have to be anything complicated; just have it raise its two front legs as if to kick and then set them back down. Simple, but it would work for a laundry list of utilities such as:
Attacking
Placing a mine
Throwing a bomb
Building
Slamming (yeah, it picks its feet up, but it also sets them back down after the animation)
Collecting (It raising and lowering its arms could be interpreted by the viewer as grabbing and pulling back resources)
Jumping (Yeah, you use your back legs to jump forwards, but when jumping your front legs would be raised into the air, so with the right triggers people could use that animation to act as a jump)
It's your model, you can do what you want, I just think that you could significantly increase its utility for a wide variety of purposes with a simple animation that wouldn't have much effect on its file size. I never said it was bad; I like it, and I gave it a 4/5. I'm just letting you know the easiest thing you could do to get a 5/5, as it would suddenly blossom into something with an incredible amount of uses. Don't think of this as "downrating it for a fault". I start from the bottom and go up; its values earned it a 4/5. Getting a 5/5 would require something more, and that's just one easy way to get it.
Don't really have the time though, as pointed out earlier. So yeah, if anyone wants to help me, edit my model with some animations and PM it to me. If I like it, you'll be added to the credits and the model will be updated with your version.
If no one ever gets in the mood, I may update it later on, after all the time consuming stuff keeping me busy has passed.
Donno about the attacking concept, but jumping could prob. be done pretty easily.
It's true you are only describing one (multi-purpose) animation, but it appears he is pretty busy. :<I don't think you understood. I was saying ONE simple animation in which it would lift its front legs. That list was just all of the different in-game things people would be able to use that one simple animation for.
It's true you are only describing one (multi-purpose) animation, but it appears he is pretty busy. :<
Still, good suggestions. Now what were you saying about blurriness?
