There have been many valentines. The first valentine was a pope. The day was named after him.

And yes it is true that many findings that historians make are subject to change. Reason is very simple, new findings or different interpretations of historical evidence. The further you go back to history the lesser are the chances of accuracy. As for the Valentine case? People who you should ask are in Vatican who canonized the date in honor of Saint who happens to share his name with other saints (because it is so strange that name is used by more then one man in whole history...).
But what made me really unpleasantly agitated is that you said "No one likes history". As Cicero said "Historia magistra vitae est". It is honestly great shame to show that level of disrespect to History and even more so to claim that nobody cares as even today there are countless people who not only are proud of their own history but also revisit it in their own favor. Also another good saying is "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".
