[Crash] "FATAL ERROR" caused by Blizzard doodad?

Hello HW,

I'm in need of some assistance from the minds here. For the past two days I have been experiencing a strange occurrence with the World Editor. I save my map, load TFT manually, select the map from the custom game menu and once the loading bar fills the game crashes to desktop without even a blink at the game GUI with the message in the included picture.

I opened my Error folder and pulled the crash log, from what I can see I can't make out anything other than "Doodads\Terrain\AshenTree\Ashentree2s.mdl" being the root cause of the crash. :/

I haven't even begun to do any model, doodad or spell editing and all I have done other than half the map's terrain is a few triggers that just make fire pits light at night and lighting crashes in some places. Other than the terrain and 3 triggers the map is raw blizzard values for a new map. The triggers were done and the map was loaded okay in the past but after adding some new trees to one of my landmasses, I get this crash every so often. I have found that if I remove some of the new trees I have recently added (Ashenvale model of course) and save the map, it will load alright in game and allow me to play. It just seems as if placing trees has come down to whether or not the game itself likes where I put them......

Just with this particular custom map only, and like I said it happens sporadically while placing trees and testing the map. Once this happens I find if I go back into the editor and delete some of the trees I just placed, save and try loading the map in-game it will work again. Map is 480x480 and currently I have 35000+ doodads the majority of which are the different types of trees. Even using NewGen WE with "Enable no limits" turned on, is it truly unlimited or is there a roof that is just considered unachievable so they say "no limits"?

Played around a little more after work and tried working on a different part of the map. I added another few hundred trees in that area and it saved and loaded properly in-game. The new development seems to be that just certain parts of my map hate foliage. :mad:

I have checked my triggers before, disabling all the ones I had created so far and loading the map file raw, same result. I reviewed the few regions I have and none are being blocked by trees in any way.

I tried replacing all the Ashenvale trees with Lordaeron summer trees via the "Advanced" menu, the game still crashed when the progress bar filled only this time the error file listed the Lordaeron tree where the Ashenvale tree is mentioned in my first post.

What really kills me is its just the damned trees, I can place any other type of destructible, work on triggers or object data. Just...no...DAMN.....trees.

I feel like this is just a major glitch with the 480x480 map size and I'm just going to have to start all over on the next size down. :'(

If you say the problem is only with trees but not with other destructables, find out the differences. There are problems with 480x480. If you have that many trees, receive a model-related error at certain numbers/positions, maybe it tries to render too many trees simultaneously. You will at least experience glitches with too many models under the camera lense.

I think tonight I might try to take a non-destructable and change it's model file to the Ashenvale tree and see if I can use those for some of the trees that a worker will never be able to reach. Replace some of the exisiting ones I have already finished with them too to push my real trees further. Like I said only half the map is done so this has brought progress to a grinding halt.

The other idea I had was just to load one of the working saves and level this continent and try again in case the terrain is glitching and causing the issues.

What are the known problems with the 480x480 maps if I may ask to watch out for going forward?

Do we know if there's a pathing limit to the game? Maybe the gaps between the trees while using the mass placement tool is causing the issue by being too RAM heavy?

.........I'm dumb.......:(

I just noticed when I launched NewGen WE that the banner said World Editor Unlimited. Turns out that I still had WEU installed in my machine and under the Grimoire menu "Integrate WEU" was selected. I turned this option off, loaded a reliable save of my map and added some trees to see what would happen and sure enough the game loaded properly.

Turns out it was just my lazy ass not removing older software I no longer use.....

Is there a way to mark this as solved for anyone having the same problem searching the forums?
