I'm trying to recolor a skin. its the Textures\Ghost2.blp, I'm trying to change the blue glow thingy around it into gray but I keep on failing. I found tutorials on how to edit a skin using Gimp but they are all for editing unit skins. btw i'm using Gimp . please anyone help me.

It sounds to me like you just want to recolor the texture. In that case, select the "Free Select" tool (the F-key), mark the area you wish to change, right click and select the "Colors" menu. This provides a variety of different ways for you to recolor the area (personally I prefer the "Hue-Saturation" option, but I also use "Colorize" or even "Colorify" on some occasions).

personally I prefer the "Hue-Saturation" option,
For adjusting the colors a bit:) Indeed.
Well I'll look at it too if you don't mind.
It's like editing a glowing image.. dont know how to explain that..
I see. It's not hard.
