Hmm.. i love dead space, but do you have any of the skills required to pull this off?
How good are your jass skills?

I've been working on quite a few FPS projects, and you always end up getting way over your head.

For instance, you are going to need a projectile system, some kind of raycasting to calculate if the trajectory is clear, a system to make bullets hit obstractles, etc.
You are also going to need a lot of modeling done to capture the real atmosphere (don't look at me though! :).

Anyways, i was making my own metastasis-type map inspired by dead space (a big modeling project), but much like the halo project, i will most likely save it for starcraft 2, as soon as the countless editor bugs are fixed, and as soon as i have bashed blizzard enough for making you require an internet connection to use the editor (greedy bastards).

Ill see if i can get the game up before setting up the atmosphere. as for the jass, it's nonexistent, but it's not my first time at trying out an fps look to a map. to shoot there's an ability you cast (no target) once this ability is activated, everything you rightclick (but urself) will be shot with what ever gun you are holding. ive got that figured out. i even have guns from killzone maps that ive never finished that are in this game, single fire, semi automatic, and fully automatic. I know what it takes to make an fps, it's not easy if you dont think it through. left hand on the F key right hand on the mouse. seeing if i can make it so that when u move the mouse to the edges of the screen, can it adjust the camera rotation. the only thing that i am missing is a way to move (not lke i can ask ppl to grow a third arm to work the arrow keys). didnt start off the idea as an fps, just ended up tht if im going to make dead space, might as well make it fps. it might be hard but not like i plan on stopping anytime soon.

Interesting project, but its going to be extremely difficult. A good reference may be Grevious1's Whispers In The Dark (search it in the maps section). Its based off the game (to my knowledge) and has some features that would make your life much easier in replicating Dead Space.

As for the actual idea: 4 necromorphs? I might actually have to say that you should follow the versus zombie maps way, and add normal and player units. 4 necromorphs on a decent sized ship will end up with you being bored or overly paranoid (omg... no attacks in 5 minutes! WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!). It doesn't have to be much, but a wandering CPU necromorphs here and there is going to stop you from being bored, especially if the other team is afk.
As for the no ammo aspect, how are you designing weapons? Like the "mining equipment" from the original game? That would require some sort of power input, which will lead you back to the "ammo everywhere" feel (the fact that in the game, every employee had some kind of ammunition in their locker, and every person aboard the ship had ammo or money in their massive luggage boxes, with nothing else). Or you going to have it like literal mining equipment (not projectile based stuff)?
Lastly: Some tips for the atmosphere: heavy fog and lighting base. The terrain/doodads are second to those. A hall is much scarier when there is little light, and heavy fog [alone, no doodads], then if the same hall had constant dim lighting, no fog, but blood everywhere on the wall, and dead bodies everywhere.

I'll be watching this with hopes for success :thumbs_up:

what are you meaning with stealing I don't steal anything oO when I'm reading posts like that I thinking about to give up all my hard work. Btw dude you musst rename your project because we have no rights to use this name from the EA game or you musst change the orginal game concept names (for the example the enemy name necromorphs). If you need any help with this project you have my support.
 
To be honest, i don't think EA cares very much about some amateur warcraft map (which is also merely a tribute to the original game).
Keep in mind that a large part of the projects on this site are related to some another game or franchise, like Warhammer, Final Fantasy, Age of Empires, World of Warcraft, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil, and even my own dead halo project.

I don't know what she meant about "stealing", but i am sure it was ment as a joke rather than a serious accusation.
