Damage Dectection System

Can anyone help me by either write a simple damage detection system or point me in the direction of one? The ones I found so far are either too complicate for me to adapt it into my map or doesn't work for version 1.24.

It doesn't need to have any additional function other than display the damage amount on top of the attacking units.

Then make an ability so i did the first time i needed to show damage!here is how to do it:
Make a new ability from critical strike.
Then set the damage that will be multi. by 1
Set the chance for it 100%
and add the ability to the hero/unit/building

Bad for 2 reasons:

A) No spell damage detection.
B) Damage is red & always on top of the attacker (= non-customizeable)
