Converting .avi to .wmv

Can anyone tell me how to convert an .avi (video) file to a .wmv (also video) file?

You could try Windows Movie maker, which is pretty easy to use but has somewhat limited options.

Or, you can use Windows Media Encoder:

It's harder to use, but you have more options.

I was planning on mentioning that my problem was solved shortly after asking the question...

I was just worried about the programs I could find on google... after the amount of viruses I've gotten on my old computer, I can't be too careful.

One of the best things about it is that you can rip DVDs and while in that process, it converts itself to a selected format.

It is also updated frequently, just got a new update a month ago and its not a useless update.
