complex camera system

I would like some help on making a very complex camera system. It would be designed in 3rd person (Behind the unit like in zelda) And would normally turn with the unit. (There is only 1 unit, and 1 player) But the twist is you have a Spell called "Z-target". When used it will make it so the camera will face the targeted unit or point, but you can still see the base unit. If you are targeting a unit and he dies, it will revert back to normal, or If you target yourself it will revert back to normal.
Is this possible?
