Basically there is a war between humans and Quenyii (high elves). There are 9 heroes to choose from: 3 human, 3 Quenyii, and 3 neutral heroes (1 orc, 1 Kal'Quenyii, 1 demon). Kal'quenyii are "dark elves" btw, and they look like night elves.
WotE contains a custom-made (rather crude, but it uses GUI so I'm a bit limited - I don't know JASS) equiment system that allows for 1 weapon, 1 shield, 1 armour, and 3 accesories equipped at a time. I'll post some screenies later.
