Can you base a spell off doom, and not have it put the buff (Doom) on the target unit

Yeah, title... I tried basing a spell off doom, took away its buffs, but when i target a unit it still gives the unit the Doom buff for some reason. Can you stop this?
edit: nvm, ill base it off channel.

I think you can't do that. But, you can do something else... Make a damage overtime trigger which will spawn a unit if unit dies under it.
