This has a pretty interesting design. I like the way the colors counter each other, and the pose is good... I'm not sure what it is, though, but I'll have to disagree with the others about it's "Warcraft-ish-ness" (or rather, "fitting-ness in Warcraft"). It definitely needs... something. Unfortunately not much of an art critiquer, though I can say it seems... 'soft'. Like it needs some sharp, high-contrast edging work done or something. Maybe. Hopefully. Keep it up!

I zoomed the image out to it's original size. It's easier to see what it is now, and in my opinion it looks better.

Aw c'mon now, you didn't fail. This is great art & much better than anything I can do, certainly (that's part of why I make a bad art critiquer. xD). I just can't help but mentally 'line it up' with a few in-game ones & feel like it's just... different. Fuzzier? I dunno. Yeah, you got the colors down great. Maybe talk to Mad or NFWar, as I feel they have gotten the closest to it (probably a few others I forgot).

Most of all 'keep it up'! I am more & more convinced that nearly anything in this world can be learned with a simple key: "practice". : )

It's true. It does look more fuzzy than the standard War3 icons. I need to practice (and I totally agree with you here) drawing the game style for a smoother outcome.
