Sin'dorei300: The original icon wasn't ugly, just needed some little improvements. The new one has a different design and is more accurate. So, approved.

Maybe you could try to set all drills on the black lines, so it gets a less floating impression.

I'd say to increase a bit the shading (to the whole cone, only shadows not highlights).
Observe some metallic cones to see what i mean.
Also, the red thingies could stand out just a bit more, but...

I think it is their stack up on the top part that is bothering me.
But well, their details are lost in the small size, so they look a bit like rubies.

I think it is fine though, since its clearly a drill
